Create a Desktop Shortcut to a Web Site

By Susan Weber and Sally Frankel The following will help if you are having a hard time remembering how to get to the Members Only site, the Farmdog Blog or any other Web page you frequently visit. These are simple instructions on how to make desktop shortcuts. There is always more than one way to make a shortcut so I am giving you a couple to try.

Make a Desktop Shortcut on a PC

Right click URL

Step 1.

Go to the website you want to create a shortcut to. Right mouse click on the URL (Web site address) and select 'Copy' from the drop down menu. Keyboard shortcut: Click on the URL to select and then click Ctrl/C to copy.

Step 2.

Go to an empty spot on your desktop and right mouse click. Select 'New' and then 'Shortcut'.

Step 3.

Right mouse click on the location field and choose 'Paste'.

Step 4.

Click on 'Next'.

Step 5.

Give it any name you would like and click on 'Finish'.

Step 6.

Your shortcut has been created. If you would like to give a different look, right mouse click on the new icon and choose 'Properties'.

Step 7.

Click on 'Change Icon'.

Step 8.

Pick one you like, click on it, and then click 'OK'.

Step 9.

Click on 'Apply' and then 'OK'.

Step 10.

Now you have a new shortcut on your desktop.

Quick Way to Make a Desktop Shortcut
on a Mac or a PC

Step 1.

Go to the website you want to create a shortcut to. Click on the image next to the URL (Web site address) and drag it to your desktop.

Step 2.

The shortcut is made.The image and text on the shortcut defaults to the Web site default.

Step 3.

If you want to change the title click once pause then click again to select the text. Then type in the new title and hit Enter on the PC or return on the Mac.

Step 4.

If you want to change the icon follow the steps 6 - 9 above for a PC.

Now you try it...

Follow the same steps to create a shortcut to the Farmdog pages.

You may use this image for your DSFCA shortcut. To copy the image to your computer just do the following:

PC: Right mouse click the logo and select Save Picture As...

Mac: Right mouse click or control/click and select Save Image As...
